Yahoo delivers stocks, news, weather & adoptable monkey bots to Facebook Messenger
A slew of new Facebook Messenger bots from Yahoo have been released into the wild today. These Messenger bots are designed to help you get pertinent information on world news and weather and are accompanied by a bot that lets you play with a selfie-taking monkey.
Three off the main three bots tie into Yahoo’s core competencies — weather, news and finance. The goal of these is to get people information quickly on a desired stock or news trend or to share Flickr images of current weather. Here’s a bit more about each:
Yahoo Finance — @YahooFinance
With this bot, you can fire over a general market inquiry or stock ticker symbol and get real-time quotes and news delivered back. A few additional features allow users to set alerts on price drops or increases on selected stocks or funds, predict pricing, share information, and even play stock prediction games.
Yahoo News — @YahooNews
This bot gives users access to what’s happening in the world, including trending topics, top stories and a search feature that allows you to search for news that’s pertinent to you.
Yahoo Weather — @YahooWeather
This bot gives users quick updates on weather, along with local images from Flickr. Users can caption these images and quickly share and also add in their friend’s cities to follow along with their weather.
MonkeyPet — @MonkeyPet
Unlike the others, this bot doesn’t pull in the usual Yahoo information — at all. Instead, this allows users to adopt a digital monkey that loves to take selfies (on top of Flickr photos, of course). The monkey will tell you when it’s hungry, and you can feed it with emoji food and unlock different items as the monkey “travels” around.
