An Introduction to E-Commerce Integrations on the Major Social Media Platforms
Social shopping was a major trend in 2015 amongst all the social media platforms with brands like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube and Instagram adding e-commerce integrations to their platforms. These companies are rolling out new forms of advertising and native shopping features as they fight for retail dollars.
Slant Marketing has put together a useful graphic and guide that covers the state of social shopping and goes into detail on how each major social media platform is using social shopping to try and take a slice of consumer’s e-commerce shopping dollars. For each major platform the Slant looked at the following:
- Availability: What kind of native e-commerce shopping exists on the social media platform, which e-commerce engines it integrates with, etc.
- Opportunity: What kind of audience exists on the social platform, what they use the platform for, etc. For example, 93% of all Pinterest users have used it at some point for product research before making a purchasing decision.
- Limitations: Finally, it looks at what the limitations could be, or what reservations e-commerce brands may have. After Facebook scaled back their organic reach last year, many brands realized they were on “rented land” – could the same thing happen again?
